Leadership with a Small “L”

·         Lead as Christ did, with a small “L”

·         The kind of leadership that builds and lifts and inspires through kindness and love and unselfish devotion to the Lord and His work

·         Lead by example, Lead with Vision, Lead with Love

Good to Great: Video form

A good company can go to a great company using these steps…

1.    Level 5 Leadership: Disciplined People

2.    First “Who” Then “What”

a.   Who is on the bus and then have them work on the most important concepts

3.    Confront the True Facts

a.   Openly face the competitive realities of the markets without losing faith that they can and will prevail.

  4. Hedgehog Concept: One thing and stick to it: See picture

5.    Culture of Discipline: Train and expect greatness

6.    Technology Accelerator:

a.   Don’t jump on the new technology bus immediately, but act like hedgehogs who work with new technology only if it helps their performance in an area they are passionate about, perform to world-class standards, and makes money.

Aspects of Building Trust:

Think Hiccup trusting Toothless

Essentially – you have to trust first and then they will trust you.

Hiring Ethical People:

Hire nice people who will make your company great – not smart mean people

Leadership and Capability:

·         Leadership is about three things: Capability, collaboration, and character

·         The most important capability you can have is the capability to ask a question and hear the answer.

·         There are older people who are vibrant and some people who are not. “a big part of that difference is, the people who keep learning, who keep trying new things, are vibrant. And the people who stop learning, and stop trying new things, are old before their time.”

·         Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but those most adaptive to change.”

Achieving Higher Ground:

“Definition of a true leader is a person who takes others to higher ground.”

Examples:
